Ways to Improve your StuCo:

One way to improve your student council is by having an executive board that is elected by the student council’s members! This is afterall a STUDENT Council, so the majority of the council should be run by the students. Having an executive board will give the students a voice and let them be able to share their own opinions! There are many positions that could be on the Executive Board, such as, President, Vice President, Secretary, and Historian. Make sure every student knows their role and responsibilities they will need to take on as a member of the board.

Elections may sound like a daunting process, but they can be as simple or as complex as you make them! A simple way to conduct an election is by having the candidates notify you before the next general meeting that they would like to run. During the meeting, set aside a specific time for speeches to be given from each candidate explaining why they should be elected. Have the members of the council vote for each position from either a physical ballot or an electronic survey (google form, etc..) Tally up the votes and you have your elected Student Council Executive Board! This is just one simple suggestion as to how to run your election.

Don't forget to have the Executive Board meet at least once a month to prepare for upcoming events and plan for the next meeting!

Workshop Ideas:

Blanket Flip

Supplies needed: Two blankets

One amazing workshop idea is the blanket flip workshop! First, you want to start out by splitting the students into two equal groups and getting two blankets. The sizes of the blankets depends on the amount of students in each group. The objective of the game is for the students to try to flip the blanket to the other side while standing on it. If someone steps off the blanket during the process, they must restart from the beginning. Although there is a way for the students to flip the blanket, it is very difficult. They will most likely start competing with the other team, trying to flip the blanket before them. What the students might not realize is that it would be much easier if the two groups worked together. The takeaway should be that it's not always about competition, sometimes you need to work together to achieve a shared goal. A lot of times you have to lean on each other for help and support.

Back to School Tips:

The beginning of the school year can be a stressful process, dealing with a new environment and a whole new set of people. Here are a few tips to start you off on the right foot! Share these with your student council and encourage others through these tips as well!

1. Get Involved!

One key tip is getting involved in your school! Whether it's through sports, or clubs, exploring your interests is a great way of developing new relationships with new people! Sharing a common interest with people can become a great platform for your day to day conversation.

2. Maintain a Positive Attitude!

It's very easy to start of the school year with a very pessimistic outlook. However, looking on the bright side will help you get things done faster and it will improve your personal relationships.

3. Be Kind!

Last but not least, is to be kind to everyone! You are not the only one in this new environment. If you are nervous or anxious, chances are someone else is too! It's important to be kind to everyone because you never know what that person is going through and how they are feeling.
